Arab Committee Discusses Knowledge Exchange, Future of Railway Transport in Arab Region

The Arab Technical Committee for Knowledge Exchange in Guided Transport held its first meeting today at the headquarters of the Arab League General Secretariat, with the participation of representatives from member states and the Arab Union of Railways.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia participated in the meeting with a delegation from the Transport General Authority, which included the Director of Railway Policies Eng. Fahad Basalem and Hayat Al-Yabis.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Director of the Transport and Tourism Department at the Arab League, Dr Bahjat Abu Al-Nasr, said that the committee discussed the issue referred by the Arab Transport Ministers Council concerning the future of railway transport in the Arab region.

He added that several Arab member states including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Sudan, and Qatar reviewed their experiences and expertise in various types of railway transport to benefit countries that need to implement these experiences.

Abu Al-Nasr considered the meeting a step
towards railway connectivity among Arab countries, noting that any railway transport agreement requires an initial enhancement of railway infrastructure in all member states individually.
