4.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Tonga Islands in South Pacific Ocean

Tonga: An earthquake measuring 4.9 magnitude on the Richter scale struck on Sunday Tonga islands in the Pacific Ocean. According to Qatar News Agency, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the quake occurred 130 km east of Hihifo, at a depth of 76 km. There have been no reports of casualties or material damage due to the earthquake so far. Tonga is an archipelago of 176 islands scattered in the South Pacific Ocean, of which only 52 are inhabited. It is located northwest of New Zealand and Australia.

4.1 Magnitude Earthquake Struck Aegean Sea in Western Trkiye

Aegean Sea: A 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck the Aegean Sea in western Turkey on Sunday. According to Qatar News Agency, the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported in a statement that the earthquake was at a depth of 7.01 km. No causalities or material damage have been reported. Trkiye, situated on one of the world’s major seismic fault lines, experienced a devastating earthquake on Feb. 6, 2023, that claimed the lives of more than 50,000 people, caused widespread infrastructure damage across multiple provinces, and left thousands injured.

Ukraine: Woman Killed, 3 Injured in Largest Russian Drone Attack Since Start of War

Doha: Ukrainian authorities announced Sunday that a large-scale Russian drone attack, the largest since the beginning of the full-scale war in Feb. 2022, killed a woman and injured at least three others in the Kyiv region. Ukrainian Air Force said that Russia launched 273 drones overnight until this morning, primarily targeting the central Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Donetsk regions in the east of the country. Warsaw: Voters in Poland began casting their ballots today in the presidential election, in which 13 candidates are competing. According to Qatar News Agency, approximately 29 million Polish voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the elections. Prominent candidates in the election include Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski and conservative and nationalist candidate Karol Nawrocki, who is backed by the Law and Justice party.
