30th ITS World Congress and Exhibition concludes in Dubai

DUBAI: Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), and Angelos Amditis, Director-General of ERTICO Europe, attended the closing ceremony of the 30th ITS World Congress and Exhibition held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, from 16th to 20th September 2024, at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The congress attracted more than 25,000 participants and visitors from 100 countries, marking the highest attendance in the event’s history, with over 800 speakers, including international experts and decision-makers in sustainable mobility, who delivered speeches at 200 scientific and dialogue sessions. The event was also accompanied by a successful exhibition featuring 500 exhibitors.

The congress witnessed the participation of a multitude of global experts in smart transportation, speakers
from the international ITS community, representatives from agencies and sectors, vehicle manufacturers, service providers, telecommunications providers, solution developers, researchers, and academics. A distinguished selection of government representatives and ministries from around the world enriched the congress with diverse discussions over five days.

During the closing ceremony, Mattar Al Tayer and Angelos Amditis passed the globe of the next edition, which will be held in Atlanta, USA. The globe was passed among several ERTICO officials and representatives of the upcoming host cities. Videos were shown about the next three editions of the congress, to be hosted by Atlanta in 2025, Gangneung of the Republic of Korea in 2026, and Birmingham of the United Kingdom in 2027.

Angelos Amditis delivered the closing speech of the congress, expressing his gratitude to Dubai and the Roads and Transport Authority for hosting this successful edition of the ITS World Congress and Exhibition over the past five days,
which attracted over 23,000 participants and visitors. The event witnessed discussions about future developments in mobility, providing an inspiring opportunity for all participants to present holistic and forward-looking visions in the field of mobility and smart systems.

Amditis announced the launch of a new aerial services platform by ERTICO, inviting everyone to participate.

Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of the Corporate Administrative Support Sector at the Roads and Transport Authority, said, ‘The 30th edition of the ITS World Congress and Exhibition, hosted by Dubai for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa region garnered success in discussing key topics related to the future of smart transportation systems over the five days of the congress. The event held more than 200 diverse sessions, including formal functions, international and regional forums, and technical sessions focusing on four key areas: urban mobility, innovation in transport and logistics, sustainable mobility, and autonomous mobilit
y. Over 500 exhibitors showcased their latest innovative technologies and future mobility solutions.’
