SHARJAH: H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, received a delegation from the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club, headed by Sheikh Khalid bin Humaid bin Saqr Al Qasimi, in Sharjah Ruler’s office.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Deputy Ruler of Sharjah welcomed the delegation and attendees, wishing them success in their missions to advance Emirati sports in general and to continue working to develop the levels of chess, in which the country’s athletes occupy a prestigious global position.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem congratulated the club on the many achievements made by its players during the past season during their international participation, the most prominent of which was the Grand Master Salem Abdul Rahman, the player on the national team and Sharjah Chess Club, winning the gold medal at the Biel International Chess Festival, and the Challenge Championship in Switzerland last July.
Sheikh Abdullah praised the importance of continuing t
o work, train, and support young players, and benefiting from the club stars at the international level.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem listened to a detailed explanation of the plans of the Board of Directors of Sharjah Chess Club during the new season of the game’s competitions, and the efforts made to develop and support the sport in a way that contributes to establishing and enhancing its practice on the widest scale and with the best equipment it requires at all levels.
The meeting also discussed the programmes and plans that the club is working on, which complete the advanced level it has reached in terms of local, regional and international participation of its players and members, in addition to working to spread the sport among new players and support them and develop their talents through training and good preparation.
He also praised the efforts made by the Board of Directors of Sharjah Chess Club, pointing out the importance of working to support young people in this sport, which reflects the intere
st of the UAE and Sharjah in the mental, intellectual and physical health of sons and daughters and directing them towards a healthy and sporting lifestyle, which contributes to the healthy growth of the individual and society.
The meeting was attended by Taryam Matar Mohammed Taryam, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Chess Federation; Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of Sharjah Sports Council (SSC); several members of the Board of Directors of Sharjah Chess Club and sports officials.
