Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Art has announced the artists and curator selected for its Beyond: Emerging Artists programme, which annually commissions new work by emerging UAE-based artists. Beyond: Emerging Artists 2024 will be curated by Lorenzo Fiaschi, Co-Founder of GALLERIA CONTINUA. The selected artists, Fatma Al Ali, Dina Nazmi Khorchid, and Simrin Mehra Agarwal, will produce commissioned works to be exhibited at Abu Dhabi Art this year.
According to Emirates News Agency, the works will be showcased at Manarat Al Saadiyat from 20 – 24 November 2024, before traveling internationally. Lorenzo Fiaschi, commenting on the collaboration, expressed enthusiasm about contributing to the region’s contemporary art scene and supporting the dynamic evolution of the art world. He highlighted the importance of diversity in enriching artistic experiences and expressed eagerness to guide the selected artists in developing projects of international calibre.
The selection process involved reviewing over 100 proposals by the Ab
u Dhabi Art organising committee and GALLERIA CONTINUA, in consultation with Friends of Abu Dhabi Art, a group dedicated to supporting art and culture in the emirate. Abu Dhabi Art Director Dyala Nusseibeh noted the analytical and thoughtful nature of the chosen proposals, addressing issues such as conflict, environmental relationships, and the impact of colonialism on indigenous plant life. The commissioned artists explore imagined landscapes, paving the way for new regional histories.
The 16th edition of Abu Dhabi Art, occurring from 20 – 24 November 2024, will host a variety of galleries and artists worldwide at Manarat Al Saadiyat. The programme forms part of the year-round exhibitions by Abu Dhabi Art. These exhibitions include the 2023 Beyond Emerging Artists’ showcase at Marignana Arte in Venice, Italy, and the ongoing Gateway: Maqam exhibition, featuring a mid-career survey for Hashel Al Lamki in Kochi, India.
