Abu dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Chamber's Committee for the Review of Government Laws and Legislation has reported a substantial growth in its legislative workload during the first half of 2026, marking a notable increase in its influence and impact on the regulatory environment. The Committee managed 40 legislative and regulatory referrals during this period, a significant rise from the 12 it handled in the first half of 2025, showing an increase of approximately 233 percent.
According to Emirates News Agency, the Committee's activities included examining 70 percent of these referrals at the initial review stage, with the remaining 30 percent advancing to further rounds of review. This indicates the Committee's sustained involvement in influencing legislative initiatives. Recommendations were made to enhance legislative and regulatory frameworks, governance, procedures, and penalties, while balancing regulatory objectives with private sector needs.
The Committee's scope encompasses reviewing draft laws and regulations, assessing existing legislation, and coordinating with governmental and private sector entities to develop policy proposals. The areas covered include commercial companies, non-profit organizations, family businesses, and various other sectors crucial to Abu Dhabi's business landscape.
Ali bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, Head of the Committee, emphasized the Committee's growing role in representing private sector interests and enhancing legislation quality. He noted that the increase in legislative referrals and review processes underscores the Committee's strategic partnership in shaping economic legislation. The Committee also aims to promote dialogue between the business community and government to foster investment and sustainable growth.
Efforts to support family businesses through legislative reviews and the establishment of dispute resolution mechanisms were highlighted. The Committee's work extends beyond legislative reviews to advocating for private-sector interests and engaging stakeholders in the legislative process.
The Committee, comprising business leaders and legal specialists, is chaired by Ali bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, with Khaled Abdulkarim Al Fahim as Vice Chairman. Members include Marwa Abdullah Al Mansoori, Borkan Khalifa, Faraj Ahnish, Saif Mohamed Hassan, Ziad Salloum, Qussai Hjjiri, and Fatima Abdulla Balfaqeeh. Through its initiatives, the Abu Dhabi Chamber continues to bolster a business-friendly legislative environment, enhancing the region's economic competitiveness.
