ADAFSA wins WSIS Award

ABU DHABI: The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has been awarded the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Award, one of the initiatives issued by the United Nations International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in the business category.

This recognition is for ADAFSA’s excellence in innovating and implementing the Food Import and Export Management Information System (FIEMIS), which serves as a unified window for food importers and exporters.

The award was presented during a ceremony held at the WSIS Forum on 30th May, which was organised at the ITU headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

FIEMIS helps importers and exporters receive and track their requests, and facilitates procedures for imported food products based on the database available to ADAFSA and its partners.

FIEMIS offers a service for releasing imported food shipments before they arrive at the port and provides a feature for tracking import and export requests, which facilitates food trade and enhances the attract
iveness of importing through Abu Dhabi’s ports. Additionally, the system allows importers and exporters to complete seven services provided by ADAFSA electronically to ease the import and export of food products. These services range from requesting the registration of food importing companies, registering imported food products, import requests, export certificates, and food destruction certificates, to inspection requests for food shipments and linking them to the customs declaration request to complete the customs procedures for the food shipment in coordination with the General Administration of Customs.

This award reflects ADAFSA’s excellence in developing digital infrastructure and promoting technology use to achieve its goals. It also confirms the continuous efforts to achieve excellence and innovation in serving the community, ensuring food safety, and achieving food security.

The award is part of a series of achievements by ADAFSA aimed at realising its vision of developing a sector with sustainabl
e growth in agriculture and food safety, and protecting plant and animal health, thereby contributing to enhanced biosecurity and food security.
