Al-Azhar condemns burning of Holy Quran by Israelis in Nablus

Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Egypt’s largest religious institution, condemned strongly, Saturday, tearing up and burning of copies of the Holy Quran by the Israeli settlers in southern Nablus, and attacks on innocent Palestinians in other parts of the occupied West Bank.

Al-Zhar said in a statement, “It comes as no surprise that such crimes are committed by this brutal colonial entity”.

The Israeli occupation forces persist in committing such crimes under the eyes of international community, It said, denouncing as “an unacceptable complicity” the inability of the world to deter Israel from such crimes against humanity.

Al-Azhar stressed that this constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and all norms and charters that stipulate respecting of religious sanctities and guarantee freedom of worship, according to the statement.

Al-Azhar called for taking a serious and unified Arab and Muslim stance towards this “terrorist entity”, which has been committing the most heinous crimes against Palestinians.

It stressed the necessity of taking rapid measures to establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
