Annual Inflation Rises to 2.2% in Euro Area: Eurostat

Brussels: The euro area annual inflation rate increased to 2.2% in September 2025, up from 2.0% in August, marking a rise from the 1.7% rate recorded a year earlier. The European Union's overall annual inflation also saw an uptick, reaching 2.6% in September 2025, compared to 2.4% in August and 2.1% the previous year. According to Emirates News Agency, the lowest annual inflation rates were observed in Cyprus at 0.0%, followed by France at 1.1%, and Italy and Greece both at 1.8%. In contrast, Romania experienced the highest rate at 8.6%, with Estonia at 5.3%, and Croatia and Slovakia both at 4.6%. Over the month, inflation decreased in eight Member States, remained stable in four, and increased in fifteen. In September 2025, services contributed the most to the annual euro area inflation rate with an addition of 1.49 percentage points. This was followed by food, alcohol, and tobacco contributing 0.58 percentage points, non-energy industrial goods at 0.20 percentage points, while energy had a negative contri bution of -0.03 percentage points.
