Arab Foreign Ministers Strongly Condemn Burning Copy of Holy Quran in Sweden

The Council of the League of Arab States, at the level of foreign ministers, condemned in the strongest terms the heinous crime of burning a copy of the Holy Quran at the Stockholm Central Mosque in Sweden.

The council stated that this disgraceful act, which coincided with Muslims’ celebration of Eid al-Adha, provokes and offends Muslims worldwide and incites hatred and violence. It called on the international community and the Swedish authorities not to allow the repetition of such actions that seek to cause strife in the name of freedom of expression.

The council stressed the need to address acts of hate that incite violence and insult religions, calling on the international community to consider such acts as a crime of hatred and incitement punishable by law.

The council also called for concerted efforts to promote the culture of peace and acceptance of others, raise awareness of mutual respect, advocate the principles of harmony and tolerance, and reject extremism and intolerance.
