Austria’s UNIFIL soldiers committed to duties in Lebanon: Minister

Austria’s Defence Minister Claudia Tanner has affirmed the continued commitment of Austrian soldiers participating in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) to fulfilling their duties.

Tanner noted that Austrian forces have been performing essential work in Lebanon as part of UNIFIL for 13 years and will continue to do so in consultation with international partners.

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer also confirmed that there are currently no signs of a withdrawal of Austria’s troops from UNIFIL, highlighting ongoing communications with the United Nations.

Austria has participated in the United Nations mission in Lebanon since 2011 with a logistical unit, consisting of approximately 170 soldiers responsible for planning and executing transport operations.

Austrian troops are currently stationed at Camp Naqoura, around 110 kilometres south of the capital, Beirut.
