Azerbaijan-Armenia Border Clashes Renewed

Azerbaijan announced Thursday that a military serviceman was seriously wounded in armed border clashes with Armenia in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense said that as a result of the military provocation committed by the Armenian armed forces, by subjecting to intensive fire the Azerbaijan Army’s opposite positions using various types of small arms, an Azeri military serviceman was seriously wounded.

The wounded serviceman was immediately taken to a military medical facility, Azerbaijan state news agency (AZERTAC) reported.

The ministry explained that to halt the Armenian provocations, the Azerbaijan Army units responded in kind to the Armenian side.

The Armenian military-political leadership bears the entire responsibility for the committed purposeful provocation, according to AZERTAC.

For its part, the Armenian Ministry of Defense said that Armenian positions near Sotk came under Azerbaijani gunfire early morning Thursday, wounding two Armenian troops.

On, Sep. 13, 2022, armed clashes broke out on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan for two days, resulting in dozens of deaths on both sides, before the two sides reached a truce. The two sides exchanged accusations of being responsible for the outbreak of fighting over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.
