Chinese FM urges Blinken to stop interfere internal affairs

Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang on Wednesday told US Secretary of State Antony Blinken that Washington should stop interfering in China’s internal affairs and clarified China’s stance on Taiwan, Beijing’s Foreign Ministry said.

During their telephone talks, Qin pointed out that, since the beginning of the year, China-US relations have encountered new difficulties and challenges, and the responsibility is clear, the ministry said in a statement.

Qin explained his “solemn position on China’s core concerns such as the Taiwan issue, stressing that the US should respect it, stop interfering in China’s internal affairs, and stop harming China’s sovereignty, security and development interests in the name of competition,” according to the document.

“It is hoped that the US side will take practical actions to implement the important consensus of the (Group of 20) Bali meeting between the two heads of state and the relevant commitments of the US side, move toward China, effectively manage differences, promote exchanges and cooperation, and promote China-US relations to stop decline and stabilize, and return to the track of healthy and stable development,” Qin was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, the US State Department said Secretary Blinken, during the conversation, discussed the importance of maintaining open lines of communication to responsibly manage the US-China relationship to avoid miscalculation and conflict.

It added that such relation should address a range of bilateral and global issues, indicating that the US made it clear it would continue to use diplomatic engagements to raise areas of concern as well as areas of potential cooperation.
