Cooperation with UAE Boosts Egypt’s Date Palm Sector

Siwa Oasis:Cooperation between Egypt and the UAE has significantly transformed Egypt's date palm sector, according to Dr. Amgad El Kadi, Executive Director of the Food and Agro-Industries Technology Center under Egypt's Ministry of Industry. This collaboration, particularly with the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, has been instrumental in the sector's development since 2015.

According to Emirates News Agency, the partnership has advanced cultivation, processing, packaging, and export methods. It also led to the preparation of the first national strategy for the sector's development, in collaboration with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

Egypt is responsible for about 20% of global date production and exported dates worth US$160 million in 2025 to over 60 international markets. UAE's support has been crucial in upgrading facilities such as the government-owned dates factory in Siwa and the Dates Complex in New Valley Governorate. It has also established refrigerated storage in the Bahariya Oasis, supported participation in international exhibitions, and helped obtain international quality certifications.

These initiatives have improved the competitiveness of Egyptian dates, opened new export markets, and increased the value of date products, demonstrating the success of the UAE-Egypt partnership in promoting sustainable agricultural and industrial development. The Ninth Egyptian International Dates Festival, held in Siwa Oasis until 16 October, is co-organised by Egypt's Ministry of Industry, Marsa Matrouh Governorate, and the UAE's Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation.
