The Customs Authority destroyed a large quantity of prohibited and expired medicines and other materials that were seized in the stores of the Authority’s General Office.
The General Administration of Customs Police, along with the committee in charge of the Authority, had undertaken the process of counting and inventorying these materials earlier, which included 660 items, including prohibited and expired medicines, pellet guns, lasers, and other prohibited and expired items, in an amount estimated at 20 tons.
Director General of the Customs Police, Nashwan Al-Kohlani, explained that the destruction process took place at the Al-Azraqin dumpsite in the presence of the committee in charge of the authority and representatives of the relevant authorities, and in accordance with legal procedures, given the harm and danger these materials pose to society.
He pointed out that the destruction operation is not the first, but was preceded by destruction operations in various customs offices and centers recently, a
translation of the directives of the authority’s leadership in resolving cases and seizures that have been pending for long periods, which were seized in coordination with the Anti-Smuggling Unit and the regulatory authorities represented by the Supreme Authority for Medicines, the Authority for Standardization and Metrology, and others.
Al-Kohlani confirmed that smuggling cases have been referred to the competent authorities in accordance with the provisions of the articles of the Customs Law.
He pointed out that the Customs Authority carries out the tasks of protecting the community from the entry of goods that affect the security, safety and health of the community, stressing the importance of all segments of society interacting with anti-smuggling procedures by reporting any smuggling cases or any information on the Authority’s anti-smuggling operations toll-free number 8001313.
For his part, the representative of the Supreme Authority for Medicines, Ahmed Shabil, explained that the amount of medicines
that were destroyed today is one of the destruction operations that reflects the great level of indifference on the part of those who smuggle medicines.
He appreciated the efforts of the Customs Authority and the parties that cooperate with it in protecting the citizen and the homeland from everything that harms it in various aspects.
