DCD Abu Dhabi conducts awareness sessions to engage community in ‘Wyakom’

The Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi (DCD Abu Dhabi), the regulatory body of the emirate’s social sector, organised a series of awareness sessions for participants wishing to take part in the third edition of the Wyakom initiative, which aims to engage the public in identifying innovative solutions to prominent social challenges.

The current edition of Wyakom focuses on an important segment of society, adolescents and youths, through two main pillars: quality family time and strengthening social ties, in addition to preserving national values and identity.

Social innovation is important because it helps improve the community’s overall quality of life and enhances happiness and well-being. Moreover, it raises the efficiency of various sectors, keeps pace with rapid changes, faces challenges and seeks out opportunities more effectively.

Submissions are accepted on the Wyakom platform, requiring a clear and easily understandable description of each idea. The proposal should include how it addre
sses the challenge, outlining its benefits and any potential obstacles. Additionally, it should clarify the feasibility of implementation from a technical standpoint, provide an estimated timeline for development and execution, and include an approximate financial cost and assessment of long-term sustainability.

All submitted ideas are evaluated based on specific criteria, assessing their relevance to the identified problem and suitability for the social sector. The evaluation also considers the feasibility of implementation using available resources, such as technology, infrastructure, and operational capacity, as well as the financial viability and associated costs relative to the idea’s potential impact and long-term sustainability.

Additionally, each idea is reviewed for its effectiveness in addressing the specific issue, analysed for any weaknesses, and assessed for originality, uniqueness, and potential scalability beyond the initial target group.

Participants will be honoured for their innovative id
eas and solutions and given the opportunity to engage with individuals, specialists, and relevant authorities. This experience not only enhances their problem-solving and critical thinking skills but also empowers them to make a positive impact on society. Participants can also earn prizes, incentives, and rewards for their contributions.

The DCD invites individuals to contribute and make a positive impact in Abu Dhabi by presenting innovative solutions to societal challenges. The deadline for submitting ideas through Wyakom has been extended to 3rd November 2024. To participate, please visit: https://wyakom.addcd.gov.ae/
