Death Toll from Flores Island Earthquake in Indonesia Increases to 47

Abu dhabi: The death toll from a 7.7-magnitude earthquake and several subsequent strong aftershocks that struck off the coast of Flores Island in eastern Indonesia has increased to 47, as reported by the country's National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).

According to Emirates News Agency, the BNPB provided an update stating that at least 346 houses have been damaged due to the earthquake. Out of these, 157 houses were severely damaged, 41 experienced moderate damage, and 148 were slightly damaged. The earthquake, which struck the Flores region, occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, as recorded by the US Geological Survey.

The initial quake was followed by 111 aftershocks, including a significant one with a magnitude of 6.1. In addition to residential damage, the earthquake also affected public facilities, including educational and health facilities, places of worship, and government offices, as reported by the agency.
