Deputy PM Al-Ruwaishan meets UN and UNICEF representatives

Deputy Prime Minister for Defense and Security Affairs Lieutenant General Jalal Al-Ruwaishan met on Tuesday the co-chairs of the United Nations Country Task Force – United Nations Resident Coordinator William David Gressly and UNICEF Resident Representative Peter Hawkins.

The meeting discussed progress in the implementation of the Child Protection Action Plan signed by the Government of National Rescue and the United Nations in April 2022.

The Deputy Prime Minister stressed the Government’s desire to implement all the activities of the Action Plan, whose implementation by the Technical Committee has come a long way that requires appropriate appreciation from the United Nations to fulfil its obligations, as reflected in the report of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to the Security Council next month.

He commended the Humanitarian Coordinator’s efforts to resolve the Safer problem, which was and continues to be a major catastrophic risk for the entire region, and his vigorous effort to introduce detection, demining and protection equipment, which had been hampered by the entry of States of aggression.

For their part, the two international officials expressed their appreciation for the progress made by the National Technical Committee in the implementation of the Plan of Action for the Protection of Children and expressed the United Nations’ constant readiness to support the implementation of all related activities.

They affirmed their understanding of the urgent humanitarian issues, especially the dangers posed by mines and explosive remnants of war to which children and women are exposed daily, killing and injuring dozens of them.

The meeting was attended by the Advisor to the President of the Supreme Political Council for Diplomatic Affairs, Ambassador Abdul Ilah Hajar.
