The Diriyah Gate Development Authority (DGDA) has initiated the documentation of the rich history of the Diriyah Club as part of its oral history program. This initiative involves interviews with officials, players, and former club presidents. The primary objective is to capture the stories and oral narratives associated with the Diriyah Club, preserving its history, and enriching it with invaluable information from the club’s community that may not be readily available in conventional sources. This will enable researchers and enthusiasts to access the recorded interviews and gain unique insights into the club’s past, DGDA said in a news release.
DGDA conducted more than 20 interviews with former presidents, coaches, and players of the Diriyah Club. The interviews covered the club’s founding story, the efforts made, and the great support the club received from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz during his tenure as the Governor of Riyadh. The documentation process also included the b
iographies of key presidents and coaches of the club, the club’s main achievements since its establishment, the evolution of its administrative and technical framework, and the former and current team members.
This initiative is a key component of the broader oral history project, which began in 2020, and represents a collaborative effort involving various stakeholders. The oral history project encompasses a diverse range of programs aimed at documenting the multifaceted history of Diriyah. These programs include the Oral History Program for documenting Diriyah, the Oral History of Women in Diriyah, the Oral History of the Saudi Ardha, the Oral History of the Historical Districts of Diriyah, and the Oral History of DGDA Employees. The primary objective of this comprehensive project is to safeguard historical narratives, thereby fostering greater awareness and understanding among the public. Additionally, the project aims to support researchers, enhance research perspectives, and prominently showcase the cult
ural and civilizational heritage of Diriyah to all audiences.
