Dhahi Khalfan chairs UAE Police Chiefs Council meeting

DUBAI: Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Director of Police and Public Security in Dubai and Chairman of the UAE Police Chiefs Council, underscored the importance of raising public awareness about security.

He emphasised the need to inform the community about different criminal tactics and behaviours, stressing that such awareness is fundamental to preventing negative trends before they take hold. He made this statement during a meeting of the UAE Police Chiefs Council, which he chaired remotely.

The meeting saw the participation of police chiefs, senior officers, and officials from the Ministry of Interior. The Council addressed several key issues on its agenda, reaching crucial decisions.

One of the main topics was a review of reports on troubling crimes, including a comparative analysis of incidents reported during the first half of 2023-2024. The Council also examined criminal activities within specific communities, highlighted in reports spanning 2021 to 2024. The discussion then turned t
o emerging cybercrimes, typically executed through phone scams, phishing emails, or fraudulent social media posts. These scams often present fake sales offers, luring many unsuspecting victims due to a lack of awareness. The Council emphasised the vital role of media in educating the public and promoting a culture of vigilance to counter these threats.

The Council also assessed progress made to achieve the national agenda goals and ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision in the first half of the year. The initiative strives for global leadership in public safety, aiming for a 100 percent rapid response rate to emergencies within 5 minutes, placing the UAE among the top three countries worldwide for low road fatality rates, and ensuring a 100 percent response rate to urgent security reports within 10 minutes.

Additionally, the Council reviewed initiatives from the Communities Committee, efforts towards fostering a safe and secure school environment, and updates on the Intelligent Command and Control Centre (ICCC). Througho
ut the session, the Council explored various other agenda items, issuing strategic decisions and recommendations to address these challenges effectively.
