DIFC Unveils 2027 Internship Programme for Future Family-Enterprise Leaders

Dubai:Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) has announced the launch of a 2027 internship programme aimed at preparing the next generation of leaders in family businesses. This announcement was made alongside the release of a new report by the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) on tokenisation and a white paper by the DIFC Courts proposing a new global standard for resolving smart contract disputes. These initiatives were part of the activities on day four of the inaugural Dubai Future Finance Week.

According to Emirates News Agency, the event was held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The fourth day of the event focused on the preservation of family wealth across generations and the support of tokenised markets, bringing together financial and investment leaders from around the world. The announcement of the 2027 NextGen Internship Programme was made during the Dubai Family Wealth Summit, highlighting the importance of governance, succession, and long-term investment planning for family businesses.

The internship programme will place participants in various DIFC firms, offering practical experience in sectors such as financial services, auditing, consultancy, law, AI, FinTech, and innovation. This initiative is a response to the projected global transfer of USD 18.3 trillion in wealth by 2030, emphasizing the need to prepare future family-enterprise leaders for management and investment responsibilities.

The Dubai Family Wealth Summit also highlighted the broader aspects of family wealth, focusing on leadership, family unity, governance, and resilience amidst legal, regulatory, and economic changes. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade, delivered a keynote address, emphasizing the importance of international connectivity and collaboration as Dubai strengthens its position as a global hub for trade and finance.

Notable speakers at the summit included Hussain Sajwani, Chairman of DAMAC Group, and Halima Dangote of Dangote Industries Limited, among others. The Future Tokenisation Forum featured a DFSA report titled *Scaling Tokenisation The Road Ahead*, which explored the development of tokenised markets and the necessary regulatory, legal, and operational considerations.

Additionally, the DIFC Courts, in collaboration with DECA4 Advisory, proposed a new standard for resolving on-chain economy disputes. This includes the Dispute Resolution Oracle (DRO), which would allow for on-chain enforcement of court decisions. The fourth day's events underscored DIFC's commitment to family wealth continuity and innovation in financial markets.
