Dozens of Yemeni fishermen arrived in Hodeidah governorate after more than five months of detention in Eritrea's prisons.
A Ministry of Fisheries source told SABA that the fishermen were arrested by the Eritrean Navy while fishing off the Yemeni coast and transferred to torture camps on Eritrean shores after their boats and fishing equipment were confiscated.
He confirmed the escalation of arrests and detentions carried out by the Eritrean authorities against Yemeni fishermen while carrying out their activity off the Hunaish archipelago, which includes the Greater and Lesser Hanish Islands and Jabal Zoqar, administratively affiliated with Hodeida province.
The source indicates that most of the fishermen were subjected to hard labour during their detention, some were tortured, and that one of the fishermen broke his hands.
The Ministry of Fisheries called on the Eritrean authorities to release the remaining detained fishermen and respect the conventions and treaties.
