Dubai Welcomes 18.72 Million International Visitors in 2024, Up 9% YoY

Dubai: In yet another remarkable annual performance, Dubai welcomed 18.72 million international overnight visitors from January to December 2024, a 9% year-over-year (YoY) increase that surpasses the previous record of 17.15 million in 2023, according to data from the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET).

According to Emirates News Agency, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, stated that Dubai's record-breaking tourism growth reflects the strategic vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. This vision is embodied in the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, aimed at consolidating the city's status as a global hub for business and leisure and one of the world's best cities to visit, live and work in.

Sheikh Hamdan emphasized that this achievement results from visionary leadership and strong collaboration between public and private sectors. He expressed commitment to maintaining exceptional growth momentum through strategic innovation, infrastructure development, talent acquisition, and market diversification. These efforts aim to enhance Dubai's competitiveness, attract more international visitors, and reinforce tourism's role as a key driver of economic growth.

The increase in international visitation aligns with the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, to double Dubai's economy by 2033. Dubai's position as the number one city globally for FDI into tourism and other sectors was highlighted, according to the Financial Times Ltd's 'fDi Markets' data for H1 2024. Key infrastructure projects, such as the expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport, are set to further optimize the destination experience for visitors and residents.

DET collaborated closely with partners to enhance Dubai's offerings, ensuring world-class infrastructure and exceptional service. A successful diversified market strategy across more than 60 countries propelled Dubai's outstanding industry performance in 2024. Continuous dialogue with stakeholders and international partners showcased Dubai as a must-visit destination, attracting permanent residents worldwide.

Dubai's strategic location continued to attract visitors globally, with significant growth from regions like North East and South East Asia, Africa, and CIS and Eastern Europe. Helal Saeed Almarri, Director-General of DET, noted that Dubai's exceptional performance in tourism for 2024 is a testament to the visionary leadership of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Careful planning and dynamic policy implementation allowed Dubai to navigate global challenges and achieve record-setting growth.

Dubai's hotel sector also saw significant growth, with steady inventory expansion and high-profile new openings. Performance metrics like average occupancy and occupied room nights showed substantial increases, maintaining competitive rates compared to global peers.

Issam Kazim, CEO of the Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, highlighted the sustained commitment and strategic efforts in showcasing Dubai's diverse tourism offerings. Collaboration with global partners and stakeholders intensified international efforts, making Dubai the destination of choice for new and returning visitors, with many finding the city appealing for relocation.
