PARIS: EDGE, a leading advanced technology and defence group, and Fincantieri, one of the world’s largest shipbuilding companies, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on developing underwater systems solutions through their joint venture, MAESTRAL, based in Abu Dhabi. This partnership aims to design and create advanced manned and unmanned underwater systems tailored to meet the needs of global navies.
According to Emirates News Agency, this marks EDGE Group’s inaugural venture into the underwater sector, allowing both organizations to combine expertise and resources to develop innovative products. This collaboration is expected to enhance the UAE’s capabilities in cutting-edge defence technologies, benefiting both the UAE and other navies worldwide.
The MoU was signed at EURONAVAL in Paris by Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE Group, and Dr. Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri Group. The signing was witnessed by key representatives, includi
ng Khaled Al Zaabi of EDGE and Dario Deste of Fincantieri’s Naval Vessels Division.
Pierroberto Folgiero emphasized the agreement’s commitment to advancing underwater technologies, highlighting the unique challenges in the domain and the need for innovative solutions. He noted the importance of interoperability in addressing defence and energy sector needs and the focus on setting benchmarks in safety and environmental responsibility.
Hamad Al Marar highlighted EDGE’s strategic growth in technology and defence domains, underscoring the importance of collaboration and partnership in developing necessary expertise. The partnership with Fincantieri opens opportunities for developing advanced naval solutions, both on and underwater.
The MAESTRAL Joint Venture will focus on sales, commercial operations, and engineering services for surface and underwater vessels, providing employment for skilled talent both locally and internationally.
