Egypt signs wind power plant agreement worth USD 5 bln

Egypt signed on Wednesday an investment deal worth USD five billion to build a wind power plant project in the West Sohag region in southern Egypt.

The Egyptian Cabinet said in a statement that according to the agreement signed by the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy with the Norwegian company (Scatec ASA), the wind power plant to be established will produce five gigawatts of electricity annually.

It added that the project contributes to Egypt’s goal of renewable energy making up to 42 percent of the energy mix by 2030.
