Abu dhabi: The Emirates Scholar Centre for Research and Studies has announced the signing of a strategic partnership agreement with the European Medical Association (EMA), making history as the first Emirati and Arab institution to join the EMA as an institutional partner. This partnership marks a significant achievement, reflecting the Centre’s continuous efforts over the past year to establish European cooperation in line with the highest international research standards.
According to Emirates News Agency, this collaboration highlights the Centre’s distinguished contributions at both national and international levels and aligns with the UAE’s vision to foster innovation and enhance global academic collaboration. The partnership offers more than 250,000 registered EMA members, including researchers and healthcare practitioners, access to new opportunities for scientific publishing, joint research projects, and participation in international medical conferences and events. This development reinforces the UAE’s role as an active partner in the global scientific community.
Dr. Fawaz Habbal, Director-General and Member of the Board of Trustees of Emirates Scholar, stated that the Centre’s membership in the EMA reflects its commitment to advancing medical research both regionally and globally. He emphasized that this partnership represents a significant step forward in launching over 20 joint research projects over the next three years, particularly in modern medicine, rehabilitation, and mental health. This aligns with the UAE’s leadership’s vision to invest in knowledge and strengthen international cooperation.
A comprehensive framework has been established to activate the partnership through specialized events and knowledge exchange. A key event is the 2nd European Arab Medical Congress (EAMC 2025), organized by Emirates Scholar and Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, in collaboration with EMA and the Emirates Medical Association. Supported by the Abu Dhabi Convention and Exhibition Bureau, the congress will be held from 9th to 11th October 2025 at the Abu Dhabi Energy Centre under the theme ‘Practical Approaches in Rehabilitation Medicine and Psychology.’
Professor Vincenzo Costigliola, President of the European Medical Association, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting its role in expanding medical and research cooperation between Europe, the UAE, and the Arab region. He emphasized the aim to build a comprehensive scientific platform that enhances knowledge exchange and fosters innovative research to tackle global health challenges.
The partnership’s next steps include launching the first joint medical research project, developing a unified digital platform for researchers from both institutions, and establishing a joint scientific journal dedicated to publishing pioneering studies in medicine and health sciences.
