Abu dhabi: Suhair Al Ali, Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean and Chair of the Second Standing Committee, affirmed that empowering women is a strategic choice to support countries’ efforts to consolidate stability and build prosperous, cohesive societies capable of facing challenges.
According to Emirates News Agency, Al Ali made these remarks on the sidelines of the second session of the Women Parliamentarians Forum of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, hosted by the UAE and organised by the Federal National Council (FNC). She noted that the UAE’s efforts in empowering women serve as a pioneering model on both regional and international stages.
Al Ali highlighted the UAE’s significant decision to increase women’s representation in the FNC to 50 percent, which demonstrates a strong belief in the role of women as essential partners in decision-making and sustainable development. She underscored that empowering women politically, economically, and socially, as well as achieving equality, form a core foundation for enhancing security and societal peace.
She further elaborated that involving women in development efforts across various sectors directly supports development policies worldwide. Al Ali also pointed out that strengthening regional and international parliamentary cooperation aids in exchanging successful experiences and unifying efforts to support women’s empowerment issues.
She emphasized the critical role of parliaments in enacting legislation and monitoring public policies to ensure the effective and sustainable participation of women in various sectors. Additionally, she commended the Federal National Council for hosting the conference and its unwavering commitment to fostering constructive parliamentary dialogue on women’s issues.
