Etihad Upgrades Gothenburg Route to Year-Round Service Following Surge in Demand

Abu dhabi: Etihad Airways has announced that its newly introduced Gothenburg service will now operate year-round due to robust demand. Initially planned as a winter route from December 17, 2026, to March 21, 2027, the Abu Dhabi-Gothenburg service will continue beyond the season to cater to the growing interest since bookings opened.

According to Emirates News Agency, the demand for this route has been strong from both ends. Travelers in western Sweden have shown keen interest in visiting Abu Dhabi and the broader Gulf region, as well as destinations in Asia and the Indian subcontinent. Conversely, travelers from Etihad's extensive global network are eager to explore Sweden's scenic west coast.

Arik De, Etihad Airways' Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, expressed his satisfaction with the market's response, stating, "Three weeks in, the market has told us we underestimated Gothenburg, and we are glad to be corrected. The strength of demand this early gives us the confidence to make Gothenburg a year-round service before the first flight has even taken off."

De highlighted the anticipation in western Sweden for this connection, emphasizing the mutual interest from both ends of the route. "Sweden's biggest gem is being discovered, and we are pleased to be the airline opening Gothenburg to Abu Dhabi and beyond," he added.

Gothenburg marks the 15th new destination launched by Etihad in 2026, amidst a year of expansion that includes cities across Europe, Asia, and Africa. The Abu Dhabi-Gothenburg route will commence on December 17, 2026, with four flights a week, operated by the Airbus A321LR.
