EU to Deploy Mission for Palestinian Legislative Elections

Brussels:The European Union has announced its readiness to deploy an Election Observation Mission for the Palestinian legislative elections scheduled for November 28.

According to Emirates News Agency, Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, discussed the deployment of this mission during a call with Palestinian Vice-President Hussein Al-Sheikh. Kallas emphasized that Palestinians should be able to choose their representatives in elections that are credible, inclusive, and transparent.

The upcoming elections, which will be the first parliamentary vote in nearly 20 years, present an opportunity to renew the legitimacy of Palestinian institutions. The elections will be held in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced the election date in a decree issued last July. The Central Elections Commission is in the midst of its preparations, with candidate nominations open from September 26 to October 7, and electoral campaigning set to begin on November 6.
