Makkah, Farmers in the Makkah region present their seasonal crops in public markets as part of the awareness campaign “Harvest Season” launched by the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of consuming local fruits when they are in season.
Director of Public Markets Administration Eng. Jamaan Al-Zahrani pointed out that the campaign’s goal is to educate the public about the health and nutritional benefits of the many local fruits available throughout the year, and help local farmers market their produce and thus increase their financial income, improve their living standards, and raise the quality of their life.
He said that the central vegetable markets in Makkah, Jeddah and Taif are witnessing an abundance of crops, such as grapes, figs, prickly pears, peaches, apricots, various types of dates, watermelons, and melons, in quantities about 35% higher than last year.
Public markets in the Kingdom thrive during various seasons with abunda
nt quantities of local agricultural products and crops. The ministry conducts inspection and monitoring tours in all the regions of the Kingdom to ensure the availability of goods and food items, and to verify the compliance of commercial establishments in these markets with public health regulations.
