FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTRY STRONGLY CONDEMNS BURNING OF HOLY QUR’AN: WE CALL FOR A DEFINITIVE END TO THESE PROVOCATIONS

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants condemned, in the strongest terms, the burning of the Holy Quran in Sweden by a group of extremists. It said in a statement today: “This act, which is repeated for the second time, constitutes an assault on the sanctities of Muslims and a provocation to their feelings, and comes to exacerbate Islamophobia and hatred instead of consolidating the values of tolerance and coexistence between religions and civilizations.” It added that such an act cannot be justified under the pretext of freedom of expression, as it fuels hatred and breeds violence. The Ministry, thus, called for “putting a final end to these provocations and considering them crimes punishable by law, given their negative repercussions on the relationship between religions and peoples.”
