Foreign Ministry condemns Israel’s decision to accelerate settlement construction

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned Israeli government’s decision to expedite settlement construction and expansion in preparation for issuing tenders to build thousands of settler units in the West Bank. In a statement on Sunday, the ministry’s official spokesperson , Sinan Majali, said settlement expansion and displacement of Palestinian residents from their homes is a flagrant violation and a grave breach of international law and international legitimacy resolutions. In this regard, he referred to Security Council Resolution No. 2334, which calls on the international community to take immediate action to stop unilateral Israeli measures. Majali also said Israel’s practices, the occupying power, primarily building and expanding settlements, confiscating lands and displacing Palestinians, are illegitimate, illegal, rejected and condemned, and represent a serious violation of international humanitarian law, undermine foundations of peace and chances to realize the two-state solution.
