Samarkand:Fouad Darwish, Vice President of the UAE Chess Federation, has been elected as a Vice President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE). This election took place during the FIDE General Assembly, held alongside the World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

According to Emirates News Agency , Darwish was one of three individuals elected to the position during the assembly. His election is seen as a significant achievement for UAE chess and reflects the confidence placed in Emirati sports professionals on the international stage.

Dr. Ismail Ibrahim Al Khoori, President of the UAE Chess Federation, congratulated Darwish on this milestone. He emphasized that Emirati professionals possess the necessary experience and expertise to hold senior international roles and contribute to global sports development.

Darwish expressed his gratitude to the UAE Chess Federation for their nomination and support. He conveyed his hope that his new role within FIDE would allow him to further aid in the advancement of chess in the UAE.
