France pledges pound 100 million in support of Lebanon

French President Emmanuel Macron announced today, Thursday, that his country will provide pound 100 million as part of international support for Lebanon.

This came during the opening of the International Conference in Support of Lebanon, held in the capital, Paris.

The conference is part of global efforts to help Lebanon cope with the aftermath of the recent crisis following Israeli bombardment in the south of the country, which led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of civilians.

In his opening remarks, Macron reaffirmed France’s commitment to supporting Lebanon during this difficult period, noting that the primary goal of the conference is to respond to the United Nations’ appeal to raise over US$400 million to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to those displaced by the conflict.

The French President called for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon, stressing that the continuation of military operations only serves to deepen the humanitarian crisis.
