Fujairah Environment Authority Initiates Project to Gauge Environmental Awareness and Practices

Fujairah: The Fujairah Environment Authority (FEA) has introduced the 'Measuring Environmental Awareness and Behaviour in the Emirate of Fujairah' project, which seeks to create a scientific framework for assessing environmental awareness and behaviour. This initiative aims to support data-driven environmental decision-making. According to Emirates News Agency, the project will employ a scientific approach to evaluate both environmental knowledge and practices, as well as the gap between them. The objective is to construct a reliable database that will aid in future planning, improve the efficiency of environmental awareness programmes, and involve the community as a key partner in environmental protection and natural resource conservation. Field teams have begun collecting random samples from a diverse cross-section of society, including government and private sector participants. The project aligns with the Fujairah Plan's goals and national priorities in sustainable development, aiming to enhance quality of life and preserve natural resources for future generations. This initiative also seeks to position Fujairah as a leader in employing innovative and scientific solutions for environmental progress. Assilah Abdullah Ali Maala, Director of the Fujairah Environment Authority, emphasized that the project embodies the vision of the UAE's leadership and Fujairah's commitment to sustainable development. She underscored the necessity of advancing beyond traditional awareness methods to evaluate the impact of these programmes on community behaviour. Al Maalla stated that identifying priorities and monitoring awareness and behaviour gaps will enable the authority to craft more effective programmes. She urged the teams to ensure the project's comprehensive scope, focusing on various societal segments including families, students, government entities, and industries, while considering Fujairah's unique geographical and social context. The initiative marks a significant step towards establishing a sustainable system for assessing environmental awareness and behaviour in Fujairah. It will allow the authority to evaluate the impact of its policies and programmes, improve decision-making, and foster a more responsible and sustainable community.
