Guangzhou’s Foreign Trade Surpasses 1 Trillion Yuan Mark in Jan-Oct Period

Guangzhou: Guangzhou, the capital city of China's Guangdong Province, has reported a total foreign trade volume of 1.02 trillion yuan (approximately US$143.5 billion) in the first ten months of the year. This achievement marks the first time the city's foreign trade has surpassed the one-trillion-yuan threshold within such a period.

According to Emirates News Agency, statistics from Guangzhou Customs revealed that the city's foreign trade imports and exports volume reached 1.02 trillion yuan from January to October, reflecting a 12.1 percent increase year on year. This accounts for about 13 percent of Guangdong's total foreign trade. Notably, the city's exports grew by more than 20 percent during this period, representing the fastest growth rate among major foreign-trade cities nationwide.

Among the export categories, products of the "new trio," which include electric vehicles, lithium-ion batteries, and photovoltaic products, showed a particularly strong performance. At a new-energy enterprise in Huadu District, solar photovoltaic modules valued at over 700,000 yuan (approximately US$98,500) are being prepared for shipment to South Africa. "At present, our production schedule is set through December. In the first ten months of this year, our company's export value approached 220 million yuan (around US$310,000), representing a 5.5-fold year-on-year increase," stated Dong Xiaoting, an executive from the foreign trade company.

The increase in overseas orders has also driven the need for faster and more efficient customs clearance. Guangzhou Customs has been advancing logistics integration reforms in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to ensure the smooth export of "new trio" products. This mechanism allows companies to file a single declaration, enabling goods to be swiftly transported from inland terminals along the Pearl River to coastal ports such as Nansha for direct loading and shipment without additional procedures.

Gao Peng, deputy head of Huadu Customs under Guangzhou Customs, reported, "In the first ten months of this year, Guangzhou's exports of 'new trio' products reached 19.94 billion yuan (around US$2.81 billion), marking a 52.8 percent year-on-year increase. Among these, photovoltaic product exports totaled 1.62 billion yuan, a 2.3-fold increase."
