Hamdan bin Mohammed Engages with Colossal Biosciences CEO on De-Extinction Efforts

Dubai: H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, today engaged in discussions with Ben Lamm, the Co-Founder and CEO of Colossal Biosciences, a pioneering US-based biotechnology and genetic engineering company focused on the de-extinction of animal species.

According to Emirates News Agency, during the meeting, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan reiterated Dubai’s commitment to collaborating with leading global companies in scientific and technological arenas. He expressed the city’s support for innovative projects that utilize advanced technologies to further scientific progress and benefit humanity.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan pointed out the rapid pace of scientific and technological advancements, emphasizing the significant future opportunities they present. He highlighted that the advancement of science and technology is considered vital by Dubai and the UAE for building a sustainable future that ensures human well-being and environmental preservation.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan was informed about Colossal Biosciences’ comprehensive efforts in species de-extinction. The company is renowned for its focus on protecting endangered species, preserving natural ecosystems, and reviving extinct animals through advanced biotechnology and genetic engineering techniques.

The meeting included notable attendees such as Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, Helal Saeed Almarri, Director-General of Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism, and Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of the Dubai Future Foundation.

Colossal Biosciences, headquartered in Dallas, is known for its work in reviving extinct species. In October 2024, the company successfully brought back the dire wolf, a species extinct for 10,000 years. The company is also working to revive the woolly mammoth, dodo, and Tasmanian tiger.
