Abu dhabi: H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, has launched 'Rashid Villages', a global humanitarian initiative to preserve and extend the legacy of his late brother, Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Coinciding with the tenth anniversary of Sheikh Rashid's passing, the initiative aims to continue his humanitarian values by creating model villages to provide housing, education, healthcare, and social services for underprivileged families.
According to Emirates News Agency, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan emphasized the enduring impact of Sheikh Rashid, highlighting his legacy of generosity and noble values. Sheikh Hamdan noted that Sheikh Rashid was inspired by the values of his father, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and was committed to acts of generosity. Sheikh Hamdan reiterated that Sheikh Rashid's compassion and commitment continue to live through initiatives that bring hope and goodness to people.
The 'Rashid Villages' project will start in Kenya, building the first village over 72 dunums (7.2 hectares) with sustainable principles, including renewable energy sources. This phase will feature fully furnished homes, a large mosque, and a multi-purpose hall. Commercial outlets will provide sustainable income sources, and infrastructure will include a sports academy, security systems, and solar-powered lighting.
The initiative will benefit approximately 1,700 people, with plans to construct a model village annually. The project will prioritize education through the 'Rashid Education Project', in collaboration with the Digital School, part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI). A modern school will accommodate over 320 students, and vocational training will empower families with income-generating skills.
Healthcare is also a focus, with a health center providing medical care, supported by infrastructure for continuous water supply. The initiative will collaborate with international humanitarian organizations to deliver preventive medical services and build local capacity in first aid and preventive care.
'Rashid Villages' aims to redefine humanitarian support by creating environments where people can move from need to empowerment, productivity, and stability, commemorating the humanitarian legacy of the late Sheikh Rashid and enshrining the charitable values he championed.
