‘Huge, Unprecedented’ Explosions Rock Southern Lebanon Cities

Marjayoun: "Huge and unprecedented" explosions on Friday evening shook the southern Lebanese cities of Marjayoun and Nabatieh, caused by bombing operations conducted by the Israeli army, according to an official source.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Lebanese state news agency NNA reported that the Israeli army carried out "a massive bombing operation that lasted approximately 42 seconds," marking one of the most intense bombing operations the region has observed recently. Initial reports suggest that the explosions likely targeted sites in the vicinity of Ali Taher Hill in Nabatieh. The ground reverberated, and the explosions were audible across wide areas, resulting in widespread panic among residents.

Israel's recent actions have been in violation of the ceasefire agreement announced on April 17 and extended until early July. The Israeli army has maintained a deadly offensive against Lebanon since March 2, resulting in more than 3,700 fatalities, over 11,400 injuries, and the displacement of over 1 million people, according to Lebanese officials.

Israel continues to occupy areas in southern Lebanon, with some regions under occupation for decades and others seized during the previous war between 2023 and 2024. During the current offensive, Israeli forces have advanced more than 10 kilometers (6 miles) into Lebanese territory, marking their deepest incursion since Israel withdrew from southern Lebanon in 2000.
