India to Host BRICS Environment Ministers Meeting in 2026

Abu dhabi: India is set to host the 12th BRICS Environment Ministers Meeting in New Delhi on 18 August 2026. This significant event will be preceded by the BRICS Senior Officers' Meeting of the Environment Working Group and the Contact Group on Climate Change and Sustainable Development. The meetings will be held under the theme of India's BRICS Chairship 2026: 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability'.

According to Emirates News Agency, the BRICS Environment Ministers' Meeting will offer a platform for ministers, senior officers, policymakers, and experts from the member countries to engage in discussions aimed at fostering consensus and strengthening environmental cooperation. This is part of India's efforts to leverage its Chairship to focus on key environmental issues.

As part of the Chairship, India has delineated four priority areas for focused engagements under the BRICS Environment Working Group. These areas include Promoting Sustainable Lifestyles, Afforestation, Forest Fire Management and Disaster Resilience, Circular Economy, and Adaptation. These priorities reflect India's commitment to addressing pressing environmental challenges through collaborative efforts with BRICS member nations.
