Baku: As the world convenes in Baku, Azerbaijan, between 11 and 22 November 2024 for the 29th Conference of the Parties to UNFCCC (COP29), the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) is calling for common ambition and concrete actions to address climate change and its impacts on migration.

According to Emirates News Agency, climate migration is a reality. Last year alone, more than 26 million internal displacements due to disasters were recorded, as noted by the IDMC GRID 2024. At COP29, the IOM will discuss solutions to address climate displacement while also advocating for migration as part of the solution to climate change.

At COP29, IOM is committed to amplifying underrepresented voices. On the IOM Climate Change and Human Mobility pavilion, all attendees will have the opportunity to hear stories of resilience from climate migrants, learn about youth-led solutions on climate migration from the 24 Youth Delegates on Climate Migration, and engage in discussions with experts on the impacts of climat
e change on human mobility.

IOM reaffirms its commitment to continue implementing solutions that protect and empower those affected by climate change. The organization emphasizes the urgent need to act now.
