IPU’s 149th Assembly Commences Work in Geneva

The 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and related meetings have begun in Geneva with the participation of a Saudi delegation led by the Speaker of the Shura Council, Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh.

In her opening remarks, IPU President Tulia Ackson welcomed the participating parliaments and emphasized the role of science, technology, and innovation in shaping the future. She stressed the importance of parliaments in utilizing the power of science, technology, and innovation to create a more peaceful and sustainable world.

The 149th Assembly of the IPU focused on the main theme of “Harnessing Science, Technology, and Innovation for a More Peaceful and Sustainable Future.” Meanwhile, the four Standing Committees of the IPU discussed the topics on their agendas in addition to the main theme of the 149th Assembly.

As part of the related meetings of the 149th IPU Assembly, Shura Council’s Secretary General Mohammed bin Dakhil Al-Mutairi participated in the meetings
of the Secretaries General Assembly. Members of the Shura Council also took part in the Assembly’s committee meetings.
