Iraq condemns burning of Swedish Embassy in Baghdad

Iraqi Foreign Ministry vehemently condemned on Thursday the burning of the Swedish embassy in Baghdad earlier today saying that this jeopardizes the safety of diplomatic missions.

In a statement, the Ministry urged specialized security entities to immediately investigate and take the necessary actions to identify the culprits and hold them accountable.

Local media outlets shared earlier today photos of angry protestors storming Swedish embassy building and destroying its property, on pretext of Swedish government approving yet another request to desecrate the holy Quran in Stockholm.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussien, via phone call, urged Swedish counterpart, Tobias Billstrom, to intervene and put a stop to renewed attempt at burning the Quran in front of the Iraqi Embassy in Stockholm permitted to take place today Thursday.

He also urged the Swedish government to put an end to these recurring malicious actions saying that these actions incite violence, hate and radicalism, and cannot be considered an expression of freedom.
