Jawaher Al Qasimi Initiates 65 University Grants to Empower Women in Morocco

Marrakech: H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Sharjah Family and Community Council, has announced the launch of 65 university research grants through the Jawaher Fund for the Advancement of Women’s Education in Morocco. This initiative, in collaboration with Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech and Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, also includes development projects in Al Haouz Province to empower rural women and promote sustainable livelihoods following the impact of the September 2023 earthquake.

According to Emirates News Agency, H.H. Sheikha Jawaher emphasized that nation-building begins with empowering individuals through education, research, and innovation. She stated that academic partnerships among Arab educational institutions are long-term investments in national progress, fostering creativity and innovation for the future. Sheikha Jawaher highlighted the shared belief in education between the UAE and Morocco as a crucial path for building conscious individuals who contribute positively to societal development.

The initiative includes a Memorandum of Understanding between NAMA Women Advancement (NAMA) and Cadi Ayyad University, leading to the launch of the Jawaher Fund for the Advancement of Women’s Education in Morocco. This grant aims to support scientific research and expand postgraduate opportunities, focusing on integrating women’s empowerment into research methodologies and outcomes. Under this agreement, 45 university research grants will be awarded to postgraduate students, fostering a generation of researchers capable of making a tangible impact.

The collaboration extends to Al Akhawayn University with a separate agreement, facilitating 20 university research grants to promote research incorporating women’s empowerment in various disciplines. The agreements were signed in the presence of H.H. Sheikha Jawaher, further solidifying the commitment to advancing education and empowerment.

During her visit, H.H. Sheikha Jawaher engaged with the Mayshad Foundation in Morocco to explore collaboration on initiatives designed to empower women in rural areas. She affirmed the importance of empowering women as a developmental necessity that benefits families and communities. In partnership with NAMA and The Big Heart Foundation, initiatives have been launched in Tansghart village to improve livelihoods and enhance resilience through economic empowerment and community development.

H.H. Sheikha Jawaher praised Moroccan women for their determination and contributions to education, culture, and society. She affirmed their role as an inspiring model of creativity and contribution, essential for societal progress and stability. Accompanying her during the visit were notable figures from Sharjah’s development and humanitarian institutions, underscoring the collaborative efforts to empower women in Morocco.
