Jordan agricultural research centre holds Scientific Day for Water and Soil Research

The National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) held Thursday the Scientific Day of the Water and Soil Research with the participation of the public and private sectors, a Saudi delegation and FAO officials. The Director General of NARC, Nizar Haddad, said Jordan “is one of the poorest regions in terms of water,” adding that the share of Jordan per capita decreased to 61 m 3 after the arrival of refugees, which requires finding solutions to water challenges through research projects on the optimal use of natural resources and water use efficiency and the adoption of modern technologies in irrigation. Haddad added that the centre works to reduce the deterioration of agricultural soils through the optimal use of fertilisers and laboratory tests for soil and water. He explained that Jordan uses 91 per cent of non-conventional water in irrigation for fodder crops in cooperation with local and international partners. He said Jordan “is at the forefront of countries in the region in managing water resources and finding solutions to water challenges despite the scarcity of water resources.”
