East jerusalem: Khalifa bin Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State, inaugurated Phase One of the H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Wing for Gynecological Surgery and Obstetrics at Al-Makassed Hospital in East Jerusalem. This initiative is part of the UAE's ongoing humanitarian support for the Palestinian healthcare sector, enhancing healthcare services for women and children while strengthening the hospital's capacity to fulfill its medical mission.
According to Emirates News Agency, Al Marar emphasized that the project is being executed under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It reflects the UAE's commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and various sectors of society, especially healthcare. Through the UAE Aid Agency and in coordination with the World Health Organisation, the UAE is implementing initiatives and programmes that empower healthcare professionals in Palestinian institutions to meet their responsibilities and deliver services that meet international standards.
Al Marar announced that the UAE has allocated US$25 million to support the hospital, aiming to expand its medical services, improve care in gynecology and obstetrics, and support medical professionals' training. An additional $64.5 million financial grant has been provided to support hospital operations, medical staff, and facility upgrades.
The new wing is named after H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, recognizing her significant humanitarian contributions and support for women and families. The first phase of the wing includes approximately 50 beds, as well as delivery and operating rooms equipped with advanced medical technology, enhancing care standards.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Secretary-General of Erth Zayed Philanthropies; Noura Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the GWU; Dr. Shamma Al Mazrouei, Acting Director-General of the Mohamed bin Zayed Foundation for Humanity; and Rashid Salem Al Shamsi, Executive Director of Operations at the UAE Aid Agency. Attendees toured the wing, viewed the facilities and equipment, and were briefed on the healthcare services planned for women and children.
