KUNA hosts FANA’s 51st General Assembly Monday

KUWAIT: The Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) will host the 51st General Assembly conference of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA) on Monday, with participation from 12 agencies, alongside FANA’s Secretariat and the GCC as an observer.

The General Assembly will be chaired by Dr. Jamal Mohammed Al Kaabi, Acting Director-General of WAM and President of FANA, along with the FANA Vice President and Director-General of KUNA, Fatma Al-Salem.

The agenda includes discussions on issues and challenges facing Arab news agencies, topics of mutual interest, and cooperative initiatives among FANA members. Participants will also explore the latest technological developments in media, as well as regional and international developments impacting the sector.

Established in 1975, FANA aims to strengthen collaboration and integration among Arab news agencies, enhancing media coverage to keep pace with global news events and trends. The federation’s goals include promoting news from the Arab world, creating a distinct Arab me
dia identity on the international stage, and encouraging members to adopt advanced technologies to meet the demands of the digital era.

FANA’s General Assembly convenes annually, while the federation’s secretariat meets twice yearly to review FANA activities. The secretariat, comprising seven elected members, serves for a two-year term, while FANA’s Secretary-General holds office for five years.

At the 50th General Assembly, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) transferred the Presidency to WAM. Fatma Al-Salem, Director-General of KUNA, was elected as FANA Vice President, marking the first time an Arab woman has held the position.
