Washington: The United States has recorded 122 new measles cases this week, with health authorities officially declaring the end of outbreaks in Michigan and Pennsylvania. Only four of the new cases were reported in Texas.
According to Emirates News Agency, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that the total number of confirmed measles cases in the country has reached 1,168. Texas, which faced the largest outbreak in the country during late winter and spring, has announced plans to begin reporting case numbers weekly, indicating a subsiding outbreak.
In other parts of North America, three major measles outbreaks remain active. Ontario, Canada, is experiencing the largest outbreak, with 2,009 infections recorded between mid-October and June 3rd. The province also reported its first measles-related death two days ago, involving a child who had congenital rubella syndrome and underlying health conditions.
Alberta, Canada, is also facing a significant outbreak, with 761 reported measles cases as of Thursday.
