Middle Eastern and Asian Nations Condemn Israel’s Settlement Policies

Abu dhabi: The Foreign Ministers of the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Qatar, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Republic of Indonesia, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Republic of Trkiye, and the Arab Republic of Egypt have issued a joint statement condemning Israel's ongoing illegal settlement activities in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The ministers categorically reject the 'E1' settlement plan and related activities east of occupied East Jerusalem.

According to Emirates News Agency, the ministers highlighted their condemnation of the violence perpetrated by settlers, supported by Israeli authorities, against Palestinians and their property. They emphasized that these actions violate international law and United Nations resolutions, and pose threats to regional and international peace and security.

The ministers warned that the 'E1' settlement plan is a dangerous escalation that undermines the geographical contiguity of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, particularly between the West Bank and East Jerusalem. This jeopardizes the viability of an independent Palestinian State based on the 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital. The statement also recognized that such actions challenge international peace efforts, including former President Donald Trump's Comprehensive Plan.

Reaffirming the two-state solution as the only viable path to lasting peace, the ministers expressed concern over actions that undermine this solution, potentially escalating tensions and threatening stability in the region.

The ministers support international efforts for accountability through sanctions against entities and individuals responsible for illegal settlement activities. They call for halting support or financing of settlements and stress that lack of accountability undermines peace prospects.

Lastly, the ministers urge immediate action to stop the 'E1' settlement plan and all related measures. They call upon the United Nations Security Council and international actors to uphold their responsibilities under international law to protect Palestinian rights, ensure their self-determination, and realize an independent state.
