Ministry of Human Rights holds a workshop to assess roles of OHCHR

The Ministry of Human Rights held a joint workshop with the representative of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Yemen on Tuesday, headed by Minister of Human Rights Ali Al-Dailami.

The workshop was devoted, in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Human Rights, Ali Tayseer, and the Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Akhlaq al-Shami, and Ali Jassar, representing the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, to assess the roles of the Commission and ways to participate in implementing the activities and plans that the Ministry intends, in coordination with the relevant authorities, to establish within its annual work programs, especially in light of the Aggression and blockade on Yemen.

During the workshop, the Minister reviewed the Ministry’s programmes and projects that it intends to work on in the next phase.

He referred to the imbalances witnessed in the past phase, represented by the performance of the Office of the Commissioner with regard to coordination with the Ministry of Human Rights, which is the official body concerned with dealing with all national and international bodies in the field of human rights (violations, reports, responses, comments and observations, international and local conferences and seminars).

The Minister of Human Rights pointed out that OHCHR worked to prepare and disseminate human rights reports without involving the Government, represented by the Ministry of Human Rights and relevant bodies within the Ministry’s technical committee.

The discussions emphasized the importance of assessing the roles and functions of OHCHR in disseminating human rights concepts, norms and provisions to society as being concerned in accordance with its statute with the dissemination and sensitization of societies in human rights areas.

The workshop dealt with UNHCR’s disregard for all international violations and crimes in the free governorates and its silence on the persistence of the crimes committed by the Saudi regime in the border areas, as well as the reports issued by the Office and its terminology and nomenclature are anonymous.

Discussions also touched on UNHCR’s lack of interaction with projects prepared by the Ministry of Human Rights to implement human rights principles and UNHCR’s lack of engagement with the foundations of international project management.

Participants discussed the possibility of preparing a partnership document between the Ministry of Human Rights and OHCHR on the implementation of human rights principles in Yemen. Call upon OHCHR to respect the competencies of the Government and the Ministry of Human Rights, to review its monitored staff in free governorates, as well as to determine the Office’s position on crimes and indirect violations resulting from aggression and blockade.

During the workshop, the representative of UNHCR reviewed UNHCR’s programmes and headlines in Yemen. UNHCR monitored crimes on the border line and hoped for greater coordination with the Government side in that file.
